comprehensive subsurface utility investigation

An investment in quality planning and peace of mind

We serve our clients and community by providing subsurface utility engineering (SUE) services that locate existing utilities on public and private markets for all types of engineering infrastructure projects.

We are committed to our fundamental values of integrity, service, and passion. We are dedicated to provide honest and trustworthy locating services to build relationships with our clients. Our passion for this industry led our team together to begin this journey on our own as a subsurface utility engineering provider.

We want to work together with 811, utility owners, and municipalities to improve safety, damage prevention, and timely locates along with meeting One Call Law requirements and spreading awareness of the importance of underground utility investigations.

We want to magnify the importance and requirements of underground utility investigations to the infrastructure industry from designers, engineers, developers, architects, surveyors, and contractors. We want to magnify the need for damage prevention measures and help manage the risks regarding existing underground utilities. We want to magnify our dedication and passion to help our clients avoid unnecessary utility relocations, design conflicts, and construction delays due to unexpected utility encounters or damages. We want to magnify safety!

Our experienced team of SUE Technicians, Professional Engineers, and Project Managers combined with our advanced technologies are together at Magnify Utility Engineers to serve and magnify you!

Subsurface Utility Engineering

We investigate existing subsurface utilities, known and unknown, active or abandoned, public or private for our clients' engineering projects.

Ideally the horizontal locating investigation is performed early on in the preliminary engineering design phase to provide the most beneficial cost-saving results throughout the life of a project. Once it is determined that conflicts between the existing utilities and the proposed design exist, we can perform test holes to expose the utility. Our standard of care for Subsurface Utility Engineering (SUE) follows much of the ACSE/UESI/CI 38-22 Standard Guideline for Investing and Documenting Existing Utilities.

  • Chemical Lines

  • Product Lines

  • Irrigation Lines

  • Oxygen Lines

  • Private Alarm Lines

  • Fire Lines

Private Utility Services

We locate subsurface utilities and other features such as electric, water, gas, telephone, fiber optic, storm and sanitary sewers, and other known or unknown features that are owned by utility companies or publicly or privately owned.

We utilize a variety of advanced geophysical electromagnetic equipment to perform conductive and inductive searches providing quality locates for our clients.  We mark the horizontal location of the found utilities in the field for our clients use and can create a field sketch and have the marks surveyed and mapped depending on the client's needs.

Visible Surface Features

Many times while performing records research and utility investigations, it is important to document the visible existing above ground utility features. We use the above ground features information to compare with the records research to verify or discredit existing data and also assist with the geophysical utility investigation. The visible features are sketched, surveyed and mapped in accordance with ASCE/UESI/CI 38-22 and characterized as Quality Level C.

Ground Penetrating Radar

We uses ground penetrating radar (GPR) technology to capture images under the ground surface to locate or confirm underground features and structures. Many times, this technology is employed in addition to or in place of traditional electromagnetic techniques for a complete investigation of a project site.

Non-Destructive Air Vacuum Excavation

If it is determined that proposed design conflicts with the existing utilities found during the horizontal utility investigation exist, we can then perform non-destructive air vacuum excavation (test holes) to expose and survey the utility. Visualizing the utility (also known as 'locating') provides the highest level of accuracy. According to the ASCE/UESI/CI 38-22, Quality Level A provides precise horizontal and vertical data that can be used to provide a plan and profile mapping of the utility through non-destructive air vacuum excavation and obtaining the depth, type, size, material, condition, and precise location without damaging the utilities.

Records Research & Data Collection

We can perform records research for information provided by the client, utility owner responses to 811 notifications, oral recollections from field visits, existing plans, and online searches. This data can be unreliable, inaccurate, and incomplete. The ASCE?UESI/CI 38-22 characterizes this level of data as Quality Level D and is many times a starting point of subsurface utility investigations.

CCTV Investigations

Magnify Utility Engineers LLC experienced field technicians perform video investigations for storm and sanitary systems using push cameras or robotic crawler systems. The CCTV investigation enables the technicians to inspect and map the mainline systems, laterals and manholes. The pipes are then surveyed and the video recorded for the client.

Our technicians are certified through the National Association of Sewer Service Companies (NASSCO).
